I don’t think it’s as concentrated as you say, but one might ask what guys find “hot.” Is the heavily made up girl in 5 inch heels grinding on the dance floor going to be perceived as hotter than the equally attractive girl without makeup who doesn’t go to Toad’s but sings in the acapella group? My guess is that David has never even noticed the singer. He’s at Toad’s checking out the new, most social, drinking freshmen girls.
This was my experience in high school and most of university. I had a pretty face, long blonde hair, and a killer athletic bod. But I was a STEM nerd, didn’t party, dressed conservatively, and acted conservatively (i.e. would not put out). Result? Almost universally ignored by the males on campus, even the “nice guys.”

But I will say, the ones that you see grinding on the dance floor, you’ll notice first because they are being active.
Easier to spot than the ones hiding with their friends with a drink in hand.
Of course! Girls who enjoy the limelight do so because they know how to get attention and validation. They wind up with a good number of guys crushing on them, due to increased exposure.
